Scrum Points is a free, real-time estimation app for agile teams. No accounts, no sign-ups — just create a room, share the code, and start estimating together instantly from any device.

One person creates a room and shares the 6-character code (or QR code) with their team. Everyone joins on their phone, tablet, or browser. Votes are hidden until the host reveals them — eliminating anchoring bias and encouraging honest estimates.

Scrum Points is built and maintained by Matthew Hall, a software engineer in the UK. It started as a way to run planning poker with a distributed team without asking everybody to make yet another account, and grew from there. It is a small, independent project rather than a company product. That shapes most of the decisions on this page: there is no sales team to talk to, no onboarding flow, and no plan to add one.

Estimation sessions are short and often involve people from outside the team — a stakeholder joining for twenty minutes, a contractor on their second day. Requiring an account for that is friction with no upside, and it means collecting personal data for a tool that does not need any. So a room is a six-character code. Anyone with the code or the link can join, rooms are deleted automatically 24 hours after their last activity, and nothing is retained afterwards. The trade-off is deliberate: this is a tool for ceremonies you run with people you already trust, not a system of record.

The app is free and there is no paid tier. Costs are covered by advertising on the guide pages — the written articles on estimation and retrospectives — and by ads in the mobile apps. The estimation and retrospective rooms themselves carry no web advertising. A room is a working surface that teams keep open for an hour at a time, and putting ads in it would be both worse to use and the wrong place for them.

Scrum Points does not run an AI model. Instead it publishes a small open MCP server that you run on your own machine, which lets an assistant you already use — Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any other MCP-compatible client — join a room as a participant and estimate alongside the team. The practical difference is that the thing estimating your story is the assistant with your repository open, rather than a hosted model guessing from a story title. There is no API key to hand over and nothing to sign up for; the only cost is whatever your own assistant already costs you to run.
